Ginninderra wins Colts division 1 Grand Final!

The Ginninderra colt’s div 1 side have won the colt’s premiership, the first side from Ginninderra to do so! This year’s grand final was held at Chisholm no 1 oval on a fine sunny day being a 60 over a side all day affair against a strong Marist side that had finished minor premiers. Marist were sent in to bat on a nice even wicket with Cody Lindsay taking two early wickets with Toby Dowse taking another as Marist were kept in check at the first 20 over break to be 3 for 60. The boys took the field again with Marist ticking the score over when Josh Kelly took two wickets and Daniel Kelly one as Marist  went to the second break at 6/127, where both teams seemed happy with their position. The last 20 overs seemed to mirror the first two sessions with play ended after the allotted sixty overs with the Marist innings closed on 9/178. Once again I think both sides were entitled to be confident with the position of the match. A 40 minute innings break was taken. Upon resumption the Marist bowlers came out blazing and our openers, Dylan Hesse and Dale Larsen blazed right back at them to put on a wonderful opening stand that took the game away from Marist, Dale dismissed for 27 with the score at 74 going to the first break at 1 for 80. Nathan Widdup joined Dylan with Nathan dismissed with the score at 2/98.Captain Cody joined Dylan at the wicket and took the score to 133, with only 46 to get and 8 wickets in hand we looked to have the game in the bag……..did I say in the bag…….Dylan was dismissed for 69 in which turned out to be a match winning knock, although 3 more wickets fell before and after the next break as we slipped to 6/150 and the feeling all of a sudden was not as it had been earlier in the innings!! No need for panic though as Ben Peel and  Toby Chugg were right up to the challenge to get the innings back on track and then knock of the remaining runs in what was a very entertaining game played in good spirits between two very talented teams. It was a great team win and the boys should be very proud of their performances throughout the year and indeed in the semis against two very good sides. Congratulations to Cody as skipper and a big thankyou to Liz and Paul Murphy for managing this team so well and scoring, also a big thank you to Angela for her work as coordinator through the years with this team.

The premiership side is;

Dylan Hesse, Dale Larsen, Nathan Widdup, Cody Lindsay, Ben Peel, Daniel Kelly, Toby Dowse, Toby Chugg, Chris Murphy, Luke Masullo and Joshua Kelly. Thanks to Luke Magyar for filling as 12th man and helping out at training over the last couple of weeks. Matt Miles was also a regular team member until a broken arm robbed us of his talents.

Special thanks to Tuggeranong cricket club and ACTCA for the organization of Chisholm oval for the grand final. It was in great knick and I know the boys appreciated the facilities offered to them. Congratulations also to Stuart Hay and his under 14 div one side who also won a premiership for the mighty Ginninderra Tigers.

                Thank you all involved for a very memorable season,

 Donald Kelly

Under 14 Division 1 Premiers!

Congratulations to Ginninderra’s under 14 Division 1 team for winning the premiership for season 2012/13. The flag was just reward for the hard work the boys put in all season. They ended the home and away season on top of the ladder and produced two great performances in the semi final and grand final to finish off the season on a high note.

The Grand Final saw them pitted against Eastlake at O’Connor 2-03 oval. Day one - we won the toss and batted first, with Jack and Matt H getting the team away to a great start with an opening partnerhip of 72. Both boys batted with real intent punishing any loose balls with ferocity. Matt was first to go for 35, with the partnership yielding 72. Jack batted on to top score with a well made captain’s knock of 60. After the first wicket, the wickets fell regularly, with Ginninderra slipping from 0/72 to 6/124 and in real danger of being bowled out well before their 50 overs. The momentum was with Eastlake who had really lifted in the field. Zac and Tom then set about blunting the attack with resolute batting, determined to graft out every run and ensure their team bat out the overs. They took the score to 160 when Zac fell for 23 trying to lift the run rate. Duncan strode to the crease and proceeded to smash them everywhere. It was simply a stunning display of power batting, 47no from 32 balls, he helped rocket our score to 7/218 at the end of the 50 overs. Tom finished a very valuable 18 no, playing a great team role.

Day two – the Eastlake openers got their team off to a good start with some attacking batting. We were a bit down until Rishi plucked the ball from nowhere in the covers and threw to Jack for a great run out – our first wicket. The roar from the Tigers huddle suggested this was just the start. The next over Rishi got the edge with some outswing and Tom at first slip did the rest – two down. All the boys lifted, Jack was marshalling the troops well from behind the stumps with Nick and Lawrence setting the standard in the field. The wickets fell at regular intervals after that, although Eastlake was scoring freely the Tigers were on top. George and Duncan both beat the batsmen with great swinging balls to send the stumps flying and George claimed his second wicket with a sharp catch by Liam at gully. Matt G spun his leggies sharply and created a number of chances but unfortunately none of them stuck. Liam who had been a dynamo in the field all day threw to Jack who threw down the bowler’s stumps for a great keepers run out, 6 down and the boys could taste the win. Zac was brought back into the attack to finish it off and he didn’t disappoint bowling with genuine pace and ending with 3 wickets, 2 diving catches to Lawrence and a cleaned bowled. In between Zac’s wickets, Matt H spun up a wicket with Lawrence again taking the catch. Eastlake all out for 135 and the Tigers had the match.

It was a great team win with many of the boys putting their hand up when it was needed and the boys who had a quiet GF all played a significant role in getting us there. The Premiership team are:

Lawrence Atkin, Nick Chenery, Duncan Gammage, Matthew Gray, Rishi Gunreddy, George Hay, Matthew Hogan, Zac Lindsay, Jack Powell (c), Div Randev, Tom Rankin, Liam Telford

Coach Stuart Hay and Manager Jake Lindsay

Special mention to the  first graders who having been working with these boys at training, particularly Nick Owen for all the help over the last two seasons and to Ben Fulford and Cameron Suidgeest for their recent efforts, it was greatly appreciated by the boys. Hopefully some of the boys will be playing with you in a few seasons time.

New junior record partnership

Congratulations to the  Under 14 Division 1 team for establishing a new junior club partnership record (for any wicket) on the weekend. The boys first wicket partnership of 355 surpassed the previous best of 276 set by the under 16s in season 2006/07. There were 6 boys involved in the partnerships due to 4 retirements: Jack Powell, Div Randev, Matthew Hogan, George Hay, Zac Lindsay & Tom Rankin. The runs were scored at a  brisk rate (49.2 overs). The innings total was 2/356 (50 overs) with the boys losing two wickets in the last over of the innings in the search for quick runs.
